Based out of Geneva, NY, Soul Section is a soul-infused sextet that has been causing quite a stir in the Finger Lakes since their inception a few short years ago. From the dance floor to that last table in the back, their musicality contains all the pieces you want in a groove-based R&B/soul/funk band – tight rhythms, groovy guitar work, tasty saxophone and keys, all combined with the fiery, transcendent vocals of Briana Horton. With exciting, original tracks and an arsenal of youthful, fresh takes on songs, you’ll quickly find yourself on the dance floor having a Soul Section party!

Comprised of respected veterans of the local music scene and a new wave of talent, their energy on stage undeniably spreads to the dance floor. From warehouse college dance parties and Friday afternoon winery gigs to music clubs and Saturday night rowdy roadhouse breweries, the sextet is dynamic and versatile approaching each show with their own style to fit the room.

When it comes to the set, there is no denying the timelessness of songs by legends such as Marvin Gaye, BB King, The Beatles, Hall & Oates, Steve Miller, Otis Redding, Jimmy Cliff, and so many others. Soul Section honors the originals while adding their own touch to various soul and funk classics, but it doesn’t stop there. You can expect favorites from the newer generation including Lake Street Dive, Tedeschi Trucks, and Tom Misch.

And it’s not always the hits, Soul Section is not shy to take the occasional dive deep into catalogs. Pushing the boundaries and adding unique or extended jams is never out of the question, nor is that forgotten soul classic.

In today’s world, we need music that inspires togetherness. Soul Section lays down nothing but good vibrations for the people that want to tap their toes and get loose in central and western New York.

Sometimes when you’re booking entertainment you experience the absolute thrill of discovering a band that you can’t wait to see again.  Soul Section is that kind of band.  Musically the band is extremely technically sound, and the music they make is by turns funky, groovy, soulful and most of all, captivating.  They’re the kind of band that once you hear a taste of their set, you’ll find that you want to stick around and see where it goes.  I’m so glad to have had a chance to host them, and can’t wait to have them back!

The Friends of the Outlet were delighted to have Soul Section play, both literally and figuratively, an integral role at our “Celebrate Cascade” in September 2021 on the Keuka Outlet Trail in Penn Yan, New York. They helped make this inaugural event a great success and we are excited to bring them back for year two. Soul Section’s six-member band provided the perfect blend of original music and unique interpretations of many cover songs giving our whole event a fun, funky vibe that our all-age audience simply loved! Beyond their grooving rhythms, they also helped us work out some of the logistics of our first-ever “Celebrate Cascade” event, even attending a few planning meetings! They provided a truck bed trailer for the stage, their own sound system, and even wonderful hay bales as sit-upons. We can’t thank them enough for their contribution, and look forward to September 18, 2022 when we will see, hear and dance about with them again! Play on!

My wife Annie and I had the distinct pleasure of having Soul Section play at our wedding July 2021. Their professionalism from first communication was noteworthy. John took the time to understand the environment where they’d be playing, the music we wished to hear, and two songs we asked them to learn for the ceremony. It was seamless putting John and the manager of the venue in touch as I knew we were in good hands.

On the day of the wedding, the band and crew arrived early in the day with an impressive amount of equipment in tow. My wife and I were outside taking some pictures at the time of their sound check. The sound of the thump of the bass, steady percussion of the drums, and Brianna’s tantalizing voice filled the grounds and made our smiles even bigger.

As the reception commenced, it was evident we were all in for a treat. Song after song, the band hit every note and played with precision. They truly embraced our vision and put together a setlist that highlighted their talents. Working with these artists was truly a pleasure.

Soul Section kicked off our wedding weekend with the most memorable evening!  They brought amazing energy to a set played through the sunset over Seneca lake. By the end of the night everyone was on their feet dancing & no one was ready to let them end. Months later we still have our guests saying how much they enjoyed the band!
